Spread the love
Recently I got to try a fun new cider that just hit the UK market and one with a bit of a ‘twist’. Bhai Cider is real life Indian cider made with apples grown on the foothills of the Himalayas, designed to pair with spicy Indian foods. The concept makes sense; spice and sweet work together well, much better than the more traditional accompaniment to a curry – a pint of lager.
I was pleased to discover that Henry Chevallier-Guild is involved, alongside Indian entrepreneur Vivan Futehally. Henry is a bonafied cider expert who eats, sleeps and breathes all things cider, unsurprisingly as one of the Aspall Cyder sons!  Henry actually began my love affair with cider; before I was introduced to Aspall cider at a pairing dinner, I hated it. Now I’m a full convert – read my post on it from last year - and I trust Henry with anything cider related!
I headed to its launch party to check it out with Mezcal expert and bloody good guy @AmathusJon. Apart from being a hella fun party, the cider itself was delicious; really fresh and bright with tonnes of citrus, a crisp finish and a pleasing level of sweetness. I liked it a lot. It didn’t half go well with spicy food too! I tried it with these cracking little puri puffs filled with a spiced potato and natural yoghurt stuffing by Roti Chai. The sweetness and lemon cools and balances chilli hits and heady spicing.

Think twice next time you order that Tiger. I assure you, Bhai Cider is a tipple to tango with.
