The brains behind hot Shoreditch bar Reverend RW Simpson, Blitz Party and Prohibition have continued in their streak of exciting, tremendously cool venues and have launched a new gem in Clerkenwell, the Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings. Don’t let the name confuse you – this new venture is no tedious office or miscellaneous functional building, but an exciting striking all-day brasserie and bar that aims to combine the best bits of the brands offerings under one architecturally striking roof.  If Reverend is tattered, living room chic, B&H buildings beam minimalist Italian glamour.

The bar is a custom made curve of sparkling mosaicked marble and wood, the centre point of a stylish room of low slung furniture that opens out into a gleaming white conservatory, fringed with vines. Even the sinks in the bathroom are cool – where else can you wash your hands in a vintage claw-footed bathtub.
This air of understated luxury is echoed in its food and drinks offerings. The cocktail list is focused and well-conceived. A port flower stinger was particularly special; white port (always a winner with me), layered with mint and elderflower, served in a champagne coupe glass with an edible posy floating in it. The food is modern British – brasserie classics with a fine dining twist, designed by Head Chef Alex Visciano. This young Parisian chef has worked at passes of some of Europe’s finest kitchens including 2 starred Michel Rostang and The Connaught. I am looking forward to seeing what he brings from these lauded roots to this new venture. Certainly, the drinks are exciting enough to guarantee a return visit from me. Check it out.
