Spread the love
With the hectic lifestyle of a food blogger, combined with the tribulations of a full time corporate job and a first time house purchase, I have zero time for myself. I challenge you to find someone busier. I eat, I work, I sleep (very little) and in between that I try and cram in the odd bit of gym time. Socialising? I try. Dating? Forget it. At this pace something has to give. Sadly for me, as a girl to whom the idea of attracting a man is not totally adverse, that something is pampering time. I go from snooze to fully dressed and out in t minus 15 minutes. The end result isn’t perfect but….I pass.

Therefore, when the concept of blow dry bars came onto my radar, the little efficiency fairy that lives in my brain jumped for joy! For those of you who might not have heard of this phenomena yet; a blow dry bar is a salon where you pop in to have your hair washed, blow dried into some swanky precision style and transformed from hot mess to hot mama. Duck and Dry bar in Chelsea have gone one step further with the ‘bar’ element though; they’ve added a pop up bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. For me, this means a heady mix of getting ‘purrty’ and eating and drinking – saving me a valuable 40 minutes +! Result. Never forget, time is money, darling.
I popped in the other week to check it out. The bar itself is swanky and cool –open plan with tonnes of natural light beaming in from the Kings Road. Excitingly, Sipsmith were doing the pop up bar; a super awesome gin company that make just the most cracking products, including an alternative to Pimms called their Summer Cup
When you go into Duck and Dry you choose from a Look Book of blow drys and up dos. There’s about 8 different blow dry styles (I didn’t even know you could blow dry in more than one way!) including ‘Beach Locks’ and the very glamourous ‘High Tide Waves’, all silken piles of curls. Up dos include the ‘Brazen Braid’, an Elven crown of braids, or more Grecian or sixties inspired dos. Blow drys are £28 each, or you can buy a bundle of 3 for £84.
I settled in with my first Summer Cup of the season in hand and chose the ‘Perfect Fishtail’. Within the space of about 8 minutes my stylist had transformed my unruly mane into a golden bohemian braid. Super impressive.
I was also impressed with all the beauty products they had in store. I’m not a girly girl but even I was reduced to excited little coos by the range of sweet smelling, youth bringing elixirs lining their shelves. More than a few made their way home with me….

I’m loving Duck and Dry both in concept and in execution. Goodbye, rushed and flustered Lucy, arriving to her date red in the face with frizzy, sweaty barnet. Hello, sleek and sassy power lady arriving like she woke up like this. I like her better.
