Cue the latest addition to Ross Shonhan’s Bone Daddies family: its Old Street branch, opened last week!
I’m a regular at the Bone Daddies pop up since discovering it tucked away under the arches in their development kitchen in Bermondsey, and adore its Covent Garden Shackfuyu spin off (see a video we did on it here!) and was excited about hitting up the launch of the Old Street location.

Adding to their already packed menu are Kushikatsu; breaded, skewered and fried meat, fish and vegetables, served with the array of sauces including Ponzu and Kewpie Mayo. We tried a few of these including the prawn & braised shiitake, Iberico and roasted onion, salmon & asparagus and the scallop, and sweet potato & shiso (Japanese herb from the mint family). These were fab and are perfect to snack on with cocktails, if you’re not after the steaming bowls of hot ramen that Bone Daddies is famous for.

Make sure you save room for the Crispy Duck Aburamen, one of their new dishes – it’s served brothless, seasoned with oils and chilli and is packed full of flavour and spice. Another new addition to the menu is their Anchovy Dipping Ramen with Fried Pork and 20 hour Pork Bone Broth – this packed one big, slutty, umami punch and I’m thinking about it even now, days later. Photos at the top of the page of these two!
Besides the ramen and the new Kushikatsu, they have a ton of smaller snack plates including sashimi, soft shell crab and Korean fried chicken wings (a must try).

With a wide selection of beers, sakes and wine on offer you can’t go wrong with the liquid offering here, but my favourite is the Frozen Yuzu Margarita: Tequila, yuzu & lime juice, agave syrup and triple sec. I’m not a huge fan of frozen slushies but this one went down a treat, so much so I had to grab a second. They also do their own Sake and Cider – I tried that latter and it was delicious.

The location; The Bower. Defined as a ‘new mixed use scheme in the heart of the creative quarter of Shoreditch and Tech City’, right next to Old Street station which was perhaps missing a bit of ramen before but now has just the spot! it has enough space for 65, however with no reservations make sure you head down soon. If you manage to grab a spot before the end of June, there’s 50% off (by signing up to the mailing list on the website).
