Lurking in South London is a gem of a spot: The Lido Cafe at Brockwell Lido. If you didn't know that there is an epic outdoor pool in a leafy park by Brixton, neither did I. Apparently lots of people do though – it's been an institution in South London since it was built in 1937.

Perched right by the pool is a little spot called The Lido Cafe. It's a cute cafe, eclectically decorated with a stunning outdoor terrace area. It's available for breakfast and lunch every day and opens for dinner from Wednesday-Saturday.

img-5562_origI went down the other month to check out its brunch menu. It has all the usual suspects and it does them well. From eggs benedict, to quirkier items such as dry-aged, Longhorn rump steak with two fried free-range eggs and home-made chimichurri. Coffee is excellent, as are the juices and everything is reasonably (London wise – £8.50 for eggs benedict) priced.
I tried their eggs with smashed avocado and chilli. It's what it says on the tin and blimey, it's good. The eggs were deeply orange yolked, the bread excellent and the avocado fresh and warm – all things speaking volumes of careful provenance and care.

So….if you're stuck for a spot with a view, try The Lido Cafe. Why not bring a cozzie too and have a few laps at the Lido?!
