Spread the love
I review Joe's Southern Kitchen's new site in Kentish Town, North London. To give you a heads up: I bloody love this place.
Get ready for jaw dropping, heart stopping gluttony from myself, some very badly behaved fried chicken and a lot, oh a lot of melted cheese.
A rare 9/10 from me.

Joe’s Southern Kitchen restaurant has long been a firm favourite of mine. Its site in Covent Garden is one of my regular spots and so, when it opened a Kentish Town branch I made my way there sharpish!
They do a very naughty menu of Southern American classics – you’ll see what I mean about the naughtiness soon. First up, their gooey corn bread with clotted cream and red Leicester cheese. Jaw dropping, heart stopping stuff. A short rib meat loaf with a runny poached egg was also delicious – meaty, tender and deep in flavour.
One of my favourite dishes from their Covent Garden menu also made an appearance – an artichoke, spinach and cheddar dip – which made me very happy indeed. I could literally bath in this stuff.
Joe’s is especially famous for their trademark fried chicken! This is just plain awesome. The meat is super juicy and the batter is salty and crisp, and even yummier when drizzled in their chicken gravy.
I also tried their short rib of beef – this is slathered in spice rub and slow roasted for 8 hours until it drips and melts off the bone.
Desserts came in the scrummy form of an ‘iced crunchie’ – sort of an ice cream sandwich with cinder toffee – and a pecan pie. All perfectly yummy, although kind of needless after devouring the volumes which I did!
I also love Joe’s for their cocktails. They do a smashing job of these and they’re all pretty decently priced for London. After their ‘Rumdog Millionaire’, ‘Mango No. 5’ and ‘Son of a Peach’ it was with more than a considerable wobble that I left Joe’s!
This place is my personal pick for those times where you all you want is to slather yourself in delicious fried chicken and nosh down bucket loads of dirty Southern food. 9/10.
