Dubai babies, there’s a breakfast spot in town and it is hella cute. Brambles cafe opened in Barsha Heights in January 2019, serving up healthy, fresh and plant-focused dishes in a cute little nook beneath Citadines Metro Central Hotel Apartments.

It’s ethos definitely swings towards the healthy and plant based, and there’s a big vegan contingent on the menu. There’s all day dishes which cover breakfast, brunch or lunch (and all shades in between), more substantial mains and salads, smoothies, juices, cakes and…best of all….a good selection of acai bowls! If you’ve not delved into the world of acai yet, you’re really in for a treat! Acai is an amazing berry from Brazil and contains this magical combination of nutrients that allow it to be classified as a superfood. When frozen and blended it forms the consistency of frozen yoghurt which means….guess what….you can essentially eat ice cream AND its great for you! THE. Dream.

I tuck into a selection. Brambles are famous (on Instagram, of course) for 2 dishes in particular; their avocado pizza and kale chocolate brownies. Both make me a little nervous but I dived in regardless. The avocado pizza is really that in name only. It’s actually more like a flat bread covered in guacamole, punctuated with coriander, tomato, pickled onion and seeds, with optional egg and/or chicken. This is way better than a pizza and eats super well. Their kale chocolate brownie also pleasantly surprises. It’s a squidgy, not kale’y at all delight and I don’t feel guilty after eating it at all.

I also try chilli fried eggs with zaatar and labneh cheese, served alongside salad and flat breads. It’s simple goodness and does what it says on the tin. A sweet potato and kale frittata is equally fine, without setting the world on fire in the same way as the kale brownie.

I LOVE the acai. Although there are some quirkier ones on offer with peanut butter and cacao nibs, I go classic with fresh fruit and granola. I don’t know many nicer things than an acai bowl on a hot Dubai day.

The setting itself is cute. They’ve decorated it nicely and its family friendly, with a little kids area. Pricing wise, it’s very reasonable. Most dishes are between 30-50 AED and the acai is 36. You can dine in (it’s no reservations) or pop in and take away from their cafe counter.

All in all, I liked Brambles. It’s a lovely place to meet friends for breakfast or lunch and a catch up. It’s the sort of place I would go to for a Saturday late breakfast after yoga with the girls. Definitely worth a try.
